The 2013 Cadillac ATS earned a top five-star federal safety rating in the latest round of federal crash testing, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a posting on Safercar.gov.
The rating is a major achievement for the new ATS, putting it on equal footing with one of its major German competitors, the 2013 BMW 5 Series.
The ATS is one of 54 vehicles to undergo the latest round of federal crash testing.
The ATS earned five stars in all federal crash test categories, including frontal, side and rollover tests.
In comparison, the 2013 BMW 528i earned four stars in the frontal crash test and five stars in all the other test categories.
The 2013 Audi A6, another ATS competitor, has not been rated by NHTSA.
The 2013 ATS has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, another critical milestone in terms of safety ratings.
The 2013 Honda Accord and Nissan Pathfinder are among the 54 vehicles set to undergo the latest round of federal crash testing, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NHTSA will rate 33 passenger cars, 16 SUVs, one van and four pickup trucks, including the 2013 Ram 1500 and Toyota Tacoma.
The testing covers approximately 85 percent of the new model year vehicles available for sale in the U.S., said NHTSA.
